Bendigo Bombers take on Arch Rivals in Round 2 showdown!!
The Bendigo Bombers will make the trip into rival territory tommorrow when they take on the North Ballarat Roosters also a first round winner. Former Rumbalara Speedster Jarrod Atkinson who is an Essendon Rookie listed player this season will play his first game for the season while Darcy Danihar the son of former Essendon full back Anthony Daniher is another addition into the Bombers outfit shooting for back to back victories. Captain James Flaherty, Heathcote’s Daniel Anderson, Eaglehawk pair Josh Bowe and Shannon Geary along with booming left footer Stewart Crameri and Pioneers graduate Blair Holmes are local talents amongst the Senior side. North Ballarat who toppled the Bombers in last seasons Elimination Final in dramatic fashion after trailing the Central Victorian team by 44 points at one stage look like they will again be a formidable line up . Shaun Maloney a former Broadford Under 17’s Premiership player is set to line up at full back on the Bombers Andrew Lee. The Bombers appear to be an even money chance in this clash.
The reserves will have their first home and away game of the season and will be hoping to eclipse the win/loss ratio of 2007 which stood at a lop sided 3-15. The Bombers were able to compete with with finals teams in occasions throughout 2007 with the best performance of the season against a Sandringham side that included Byron Pickett, Ryan Furguson, Brett Maloney and Mark Jamar. The Bombers led by 30 points just prior to the half time interval before being cruelly defeated by a solitary one point.
For the Bombers reserves to post a stronger season improvement must come from players such as defender Kris Mathieson, speedster Chris Willmot, Sean and Dale Young and Nathan Meade who has had a great pre-season. These players have all been in the VFL system for a season now and must show their team mates most of who are younger to a successful season. Tomorrow tasks appears to be a difficult one although the presence of Heath Hocking an Essendon listed Rookie who played a NAB cup game along with Grant Weeks who was serviceable last week with 2 goals and Steven Stroobants a promising Bendigo Pioneers graduate should ensure the Bombers are competitive.
