CVF chats to Lancaster’s Corey Carver.
CVF reporter Brett Henderson recently caught up with one of the stars from the Kyabram District Football League Corey Carver.
The Lancaster midfielder has built a reputation as prolific possession winner and a booming kick of Football. He tasted Premiership success with the Wombats in 2001 and despite being a regular finalist in the KDFL their have been many finals campaigns that have finished in a dissapointing fashion since.
Welcome to Central Vic Footy Corey thanks for taking the a minute to give CVF readers an insight into the KDFL and the Lancaster Football Club. Could you please tell us about your career so far?
I’ve played over 200 games with Lancaster and 30 odd with Kyabram.
Corey you have been a Lancaster player for sometime, what are some of the
highlights and disappointments of your time as a ‘Wombat’?
> 2001 premiership with Lancaster is the obvious highlight and the
disappointments are coming close on a number of occasions. We were
Runners up in 2002, 03 and 04.
Corey, Lancaster always seem to be thereabouts come finals time. What do
you think your chances are this year?
Our chances should be pretty good considering it is our centenary year.
We have picked up some quality players ( including Adam Brunt from Tongala, & Shane Gemmill from Mooroopna), lost a few also, but I think we
can finish in the top 3 and then see how we go from there.
The KDFL appears to be a very competitive league and many say the standard has improved over the years. Can you tell us a bit
about the competition?
The comps a minor league but over the last decade some quality players
have come through. Most clubs align themselves with a major league club
and draw from there. We have quite a few players from Kyabram for
example.
Which teams do you think will be around the mark come September?
I think last years Grand Finalists, Nagambie and Undera, will be near
the top and hopefully we can mix it with them.
Finally, you are now a veteran of the competition and you have played over
200 senior games. How long do you envisage playing for?
Hopefully for a couple more years, may depend on injuries.
In other news around the Kyabram District Football League Stanhope look set to secure a number of Echuca based players. Echuca Premiership players Rick Pritchett and Matt Martin have both been training with the Lions along with the athletic Dave Reardon. Pritchett Coached HDFL Club LBU to consecutive Preliminary Finals the past two years.
Stanhope who will be under the leadership of Mark Patten for the ninth straight season appear well placed to make their 12th straight finals series, a run that has also brought four Premierships two of which have been undefeated.
