Demons new coach confident of an improved season

New Whycheproof Narraport Coach Marty Shadbolt believes that despite not attracting a large pool of recruits since joining the club that the Demons are set to make strong steps of improvement throughout season 2009.

For so long the Demons were a power of North Central Football although since finishing runner-up in back to back seasons of 2005 and 2006 victories have been few and far between with 2008 bringing just two wins.

” We hope to make the finals were going to be a 5 or 6 player better side and we have some players coming down from Melbourne to play in the practice matches so hopefully we might be able to grab another one or two players through that” said the dual Nyah Premiership forward who takes on the roll as Coach of Whycheproof following a four year stint with South Bendigo.

What is confirmed is that talented local product George Allen who is now based in Melbourne will return to the club to play a role through the midfield or defence while former Heathcote player David Farley promises to strenthen the Demons fire power in attack. 2005 Feeny Medalist James Coatsworth who represented Queensland at the Australian Country Football Championships last season is also a chance to return from overseas midway through the season which would be a great scoop for the Demons midfield. Shane Harrison and Ben Brennan are two other locals that have played little football in recent times that could step up and provide depth to the senior squad.

While the club has appointed one of their star players in Beau Bish a Best & Fairest winner with the Demons as Assistant Coach ensuring a youthful look to the leadership group.

Shadbolt is content that the Pre-Season has been a productive one to date ” It’s been not to bad the boys are fitter than they were last year so that’s good and we have alot of younger blokes so were looking forward to the practice matches now”.

Matches against North Bendigo at home on the 28th of March and one the following week against Trentham at a ground in Bendigo yet to be decided will provide the journey into their Round 1 match up against arch rivals Birchip-Watchem on April 18th.
